Here’s a list of DVD-Audio discs which contains a high-resolution track that will play on an ordinary DVD-Video player. As is the case with all the lists on this site, the list only includes albums which have been through the “review machine”. As new albums are appended to the site, the list will automatically be updated.
The formats, sample rates and bit-rates are listed as reported by a Sony DVP-NS900 DVD player. The amplifier used was only able to distinguish between a 24bit/96kHz and a none 24bit/96kHz digital signal, so the resolution of the digital signal is not listed.
However, it was possible to transfer a digital signal to the amplifier from all DVD-Audio high-resolution PCM tracks, but none of them displayed “24bit/96kHz” on the amplifier.
One can only assume that the resolution is probably less than the original when the signal is transferred using the digital output.
It looks like the general behaviour of a DVD-Audio discs containing a high-resolution stereo PCM track, is that this track will play on an ordinary DVD player.
At the time of writing, only 2 (Naxos) out of 23 DVD-Audio discs contained a PCM track which was not accessible from a ordinary DVD player.
