It should now get a lot easier for none Scandinavians to get a hold of Brimstone Butterfly’s Normality Killed The Cat.
The band recently signed with Silverline Records and the album is already out in the US in DualDisc format. Canadians will have to wait until the 18th October, and the Germans until the 24th October.
A Scandinavian SACD I would highly recommend for both music, sound quality and surround mix, is Lars Danielsson’s Libera Me.

Someone would might recognize him as the bass player on some of Michael Ruff’s albums, but here he’s on his own and he switched the electric bass with an acoustic one.
The combination of the great Danish Radio Concert Orchestra and the beautiful sound of a cordless bass, is a perfect match, and the surround mix provides a great sense of "air" and space.
Some more Scandinavian SACD’s:
Sunleif Rasmussen - Oceanic Days
Carl Nielsen - Maskarade
Hans Ulrik - blue & purple
Emil Hartmann - Concertos

Well, back again from a long period of hires inactivity. The scarce resources available since the last update, has been used to fight of hackers and other annoying inconveniencies.
Unfortunately the hackers succeeded in erasing the post which was supposed to succeed the last post.

Of course one of the most significant things to have happened since the last update is the arrival of DualDisc (http://www.dualdisc.com), which basically is a two-sided disc with CD on one side and DVD on the other side, and therefore can hold a dvd-audio on one side.
The first DualDisc to arrive to dvd-a.dk is “Keane”-“Hopes and Fears” which is supposed to include a 24bit/96kHz DVD-Audio track, but lets see. There seem to be a lot of confusion about what kind of resolution is actually on the new type of dvd’s like DVD-Audio and DualDisc, so just look for the “resolution boxes” that accompanies the discs on this site…every disc is tested using the simple equipment available (Rotel RDV-1080 and Sony DVP-NS900V).

Since the April 2004 release of the first Danish DVD-Audio, Brimstone Butterfly's Normality Killed The Cat, the word has spread outside the borders of Denmark. First, several appearances on the "Good Girls Don't" TV-show soundtrack in July, and now a Hollywood award nomination announced last Monday.
The Brimstone Butterfly DVD-Audio is a two-time nominee at the third annual surround awards which will take place august 31 at the Renaissance Hollywood Hotel in Los Angeles. The album will be competing in the categories "Best Surround Sound Mix" and "Best Newcomer to Surround Sound" against prominent names like George Harrison, Porcupine Tree and Gordon Goodwin's Big Phat Band.
Furthermore the album is nominated in the category "Best CD Package & Illustrated Cover" at the Alex Packaging Awards 2004 held the same place just two days after.

The new DCD-SA1, Denon’s fourth SACD player, will hit the streets in Japan in august at a MSRP at $4850.
The DCD-SA1 is Denon’s top SACD player, featuring balanced outputs, AL24 upsampling and a very vibration resistant construction. |

Hi-Fi Klubben recently announced the Argon DVD2002 DVD-Audio player at a price of only kr. 799 ($123). Perhaps $123 doesn’t sound too impressive for non-Europeans but in comparison this player is 3 times cheaper than e.g. Pioneer's DVD-Audio/SACD player DV-565A (almost the same as DV-563A).
Based on tests performed by Hi-Fi Klubben themselves, the player was chosen from a group of 30 OEM players from the Far East. Admittedly “OEM players from the Far East” sounds a little suspicious, but Hi-Fi Klubben has a reputation for only dealing with Hi-Fi of a certain quality, leaving the worst “plastic-fantastic” equipment for the mainstream radio/tv shops.
